The Beauty of Antique Furniture

In the antiques world, we hear this question all the time: "Why do I want to buy an antique when I can go to a furniture store and buy one that's cheaper?" And we answer in a question: "Cheaper in quality or price?" Antiques may not be cheaper, but the quality will blow the competition away.

When you are looking for furniture, today's styles are very flexible. You no longer decorate or design with one time period in mind. You mix antiques with vintage and modern design. So, as you begin looking for furniture for your home or apartment, consider these two reasons for purchasing an antique:

1. Recycle, Reuse, Repurpose - Today, we live in a very disposable society. We need to consider ways to reduce waste. When people don't want furniture anymore it goes into a dumpster and then the landfill. Experts estimate that approximately 8.5 million tons of furniture waste is sent to landfills each year.

2. Better Quality - The quality of furniture today is very different from that of work 100+ years ago. Furniture has a shorter life span which means we are throwing away more of it at a higher rate. Antiques have stood the test of time. Not only are they better quality, they have unique design which you don't necessarily see today.

Before you go out looking for furniture in traditional furniture stores, consider visiting an antique store and identify a quality piece that may become the start of a collection or the conversation piece in the room.
